Kochi: KLCA is in its warpath to protect the right of victims of CRZ (coastal zone regulation) Notification in India. The new notification (2011) is also against the interest of local people in the coastal area. Whereas high rise buildings are being constructed and permitted by using the technical loop holes in the unscientific notification, which is absurd in its implementation, atleast in the islands in Ernakulam District.
The notification came to protect the coast. But even a small house is not permitted on the side of affected islands in the name of this ban.
Interestingly, no single political party is able to point out this anomaly and discrimination before the authorities. The aim of KLCA is to put the issue in limelight and arrange venues for the discussion of the issue. A separate action council was formed for this purpose and conventions are being held at different places, by arranging the meeting of victims.
The Dharna was organised as a protest against the violation of Human Rights of the people living in coastal area. The Vicar General of Archdiocese of Verapoly Dr Alex Vadakkumthala inaugurated the strike. Adv V A Jerome presided over. Shaji George, C J Paul, Fr Johnson Dcunha, Adv Sherry J Thomas, Sabu George, Justin Karippat, Adv Joseph Chelakkat, Roy Dcunha spoke.
